A Remote Studio offering Artist Residencies

Updated: Dec 4, 2023

For the latest news on what Erica is up to.

Artist owned and operated artist residency centre is the passion project of Erica Konrad, woman entrepeneur and professional artist. Visit The Narrows for an opportunity to learn about Artist Residencies at a remote eco-built straw bale retreat centre, accessed by boat in the forest near Nelson, BC.

The Residency Program is intended to give artists an opportunity to imagine and create in an inspirational, contemplative and intimate setting.

Located near Kootenay Lake, the Retreat centre is nestled among cottonwood, cedar trees and ponderosa pines. Away from the distractions of daily life, a residency allows one the time to renew and focus on their creative practice and experience a sense of tranquility. People looking to escape must consider whether or not this is the right environment for them. Transport to and from the retreat is by motor boat. One trip per week by boat can be made available if necessary, for groceries and re-supply, free of charge.

A Sustainable Shelter for Artistic Pursuits

To make the right choices in life, you have to get in touch with your soul. To do this, you need to experience solitude, which most people are afraid of, because in the silence you hear the truth and know the solutions. Deepak K. Chopra

The Artist Residency Program is open to artists at all stages of their career, providing space and time for artists to strengthen their practice. We provide visual artists, writers, musicians, etc... the opportunity to unplug from daily life, and deeply engage in their work while at The Narrows.
